Sacramento-based colorectal surgeon Dr. Ranganath Pathak, licensed in California for nearly two decades, has been formally accused of sexual misconduct, gross negligence and other unprofessional conduct involving multiple patients, according to a recent filing by the state attorney general’s office.
According to the Sacramento Bee, the written complaint, filed last week by Attorney General Rob Bonta, seeks a hearing to revoke or suspend the licenses of Dr. Pathak.
The complaint alleges Pathak instructed one patient “to purchase an adult sex toy and practice having orgasms,” then “report back to him how many orgasms she achieved.” He then allegedly gave the patient a vaginal exam without her oral or written consent. It alleges that he touched a different patient’s breasts “for at least three minutes,” with the patient reporting there was “no specific pattern to what (he) was doing.”
The complaint also alleges that Pathak did not keep adequate records showing whether he had a chaperone in the room during exams and procedures.
The filing gives Pathak’s business address as that of Sacramento Colon & Rectal Surgery Medical Group, a practice with its main office in midtown. According to its website, Pathak is one of four physicians making up the practice, which has additional offices in Carmichael and Roseville.
According to the complaint, Pathak denied to the investigator that he had given the vaginal and breast examinations in question, but admitted to shoddy recordkeeping, as well as occasionally hugging patients.
The Pathak case is just more example of the epidemic of sexual abuse by doctors in California. The experienced California sexual abuse lawyers at Manly, Stewart& Finaldi have represented victims of abuse by doctors throughout California. We recovered more than $1.3 BILLION for victims of sexual abuse by doctors in two high profile cases. We were the lead attorneys representing victims of former Olympic gymnastics team doctor Larry Nassar in the $500 million settlement with Michigan State University. And they were the lead co-counsel representing victims of former campus gynecologist George Tyndall in the $850 million settlement with the University of Southern California.
Manly, Stewart & Finaldi are currently reprenting hundreds of women, men and children sexually abused by their doctors across the United States. In each of these cases we have helped victims and families get justice by conducting a thorough investigation of the doctor and those who employed him. In many cases we have discovered that employers knew that the perpetrator was a danger to patients and either did nothing or actively covered up the crimes.
If you know of anyone who has been abused by Dr. Ranganath Pathak or has any information about the case please contact Sacramento County law enforcement and the Medical Board of California.
