Investigation Leading To Arrest of Jeffrey Barton Began in June

Former Army and Navy Academy administrator Jeffrey Barton was arrested on October 18, 2013, on charges of sexually molesting six former students. The investigation was opened this June when a victim, now an adult, reported past sexual abuse by Barton to the police. Since then, five other victims have been identified and the investigation is ongoing to identify other possible victims and witness.

Barton, 55, is being charged with 14 felony counts of oral copulation by force with a child under the age of 14 and two felony counts of sodomy by force with a child under the age of 14. Bail is currently set at $6 million.

Barton resigned his post at the Carlsbad academy in June — the same month the police investigation started after a man claimed Barton had molested him at the school from 1999 to 2001, beginning when he was a 14-year-old cadet.

The lawfirm Manly, Stewart & Finaldi has represented victims of sexual abuse and severe hazing in lawsuits against the Army Navy Academy in the past, and is actively representing such victims today.
