Del. man claims abuse by priest who died in '93

vil suit filed against the Oblates of St. Francis de Sales and Salesianum School last month in Superior Court claims sexual abuse by a now-deceased principal of Salesianum, the second Sallies principal to be named in an abuse suit since 2004.



The suit, filed by a 43-year-old Sussex County man under the name "John GR Doe," claims the Rev. Richard Grant sexually abused him from 1982-84. Grant has not been named in any other court filing.

Mahony Response Was Improper in Abuse Case, Suit Says

(AP) — LOS ANGELES -- Los Angeles Cardinal Roger Mahony and the Vatican engaged in a "conspiracy of silence" by transferring a priest from Italy to Los Angeles, where he went on to molest teenagers at a local church, a lawsuit alleges.

The complaint also accuses Roman Catholic officials, including Mahony, of "destroying and manipulating evidence" of the molestations in 2003 by Father Fernando Lopez.

Lopez was convicted in 2005 of molesting three teenagers he met through parish functions from 2001 to 2004 while he was an associate pastor at St. Thomas the Apostle parish.

The victim in this case is represented by John Manly, who contends that the Archdiocese and Mahony knew Lopez Lopez was a perpetrator before they placed the priest in a Los Angeles-area Spanish-speaking parish.
